The Fourth Edition of Femmes et Vins du Monde (Women and Wines of the World) Concours International - Monaco will take place during 22nd and 23rd April 2010 in Monte-Carlo. For more info please visit: www.femmesetvinsdumonde.com
The following report is from last year: As the name suggests, this prestigious competition is only judged by women who represent five different professional groups: Oenology (always presidents of individual juries), Production, PR-Distribution, Media-Sommelerie a tzv. Découverte Grand Public Oenophile, a.k.a. Mademoiselle/Madame "like you and me as well as a wine-lover". 100-point system defined by the international union of oenologists is used for this competition which is under strict observation by the O.I.V. (Organisation Internationale de la Vigne et du Vin).
40 women or 22 nationalities (Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, China, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Lithuania, Monaco, Poland, Portugal, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Ukraine, the UK and USA) tasted more than 250 samples from 15 countries (Australia, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Lebanon, the Netherlands, Portugal, South Africa, Spain, Tunisia, Turkey and the UK) and awarded altogether 79 medals, of which 2 diamond, 12 gold and 65 silver Novas.
Concurrently with the above wine competition, this year also saw the first edition of Femmes et Spiritueux du Monde 2009 (Women and Spirits of the World 2009) thanks to the iniciative of the honorary president, Béatrice Cointreau, who has a 25 years of experience in the production of Cognac. Novelty was also a contest for the best label and packaging entitled Novapack Vins du Monde - Grand Concours de Packaging 2009, presided over by stylist Linda Andrieux-Koechlin from Andrée Putman agency.
I am thrilled to report that the wines of Radomil Baloun again excelled and on top of the usual gold also received this year five silver medals. In the company of such glamorous sounding names such as Domaine de la Vougeraie Vougeot, Domaine Sacha Lichine, Marqués de Cáceres Rioja or Justino Henriques from Madeira, his Traminer 2008 received gold medal and Moravian Muscat, Müller-Thurgau, Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Pálava, all youthfull and refreshing pick up silvers, which is another fenomenal success for a local producer on an international scene.
